Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts


Dialogue on climate change at WIUT
On the 1st of June, 2023, WIUT in collaboration with the UNICEF Representatives and the Ministry of Natural Resources of Uzbekistan held a discussion on urgent actions to mitigate the risk of climate change in Uzbekistan and its impact on children’s well-being. Close to 100 children and young eco-Volunteers, U-Reporters, participants of the social innovation programme UPSHIFT, and educational STEM programme UniSat - participated in the dialogue with decision-makers and exchanged ideas with their peers.
Joining the International Conference on ESG and Climate Governance in Singapore
Zamira Ataniyazova (Management and Marketing Department at WIUT) attended the International Conference on ESG and Climate Governance on 26-28 June 2023 in Singapore. The conference was co-organised by the Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics (“SKBI”) and the Singapore Green Finance Centre at the Singapore Management University (“SMU”), and Centre for Climate Engagement, Hughes Hall at the University of Cambridge and the Climate Governance Initiative. It invited academic experts in the field of corporate climate governance to provide a platform to understand the latest research and findings and engage board directors to put this research into practice.
WIUT launches Chapter Zero Uzbekistan
Chapter Zero Uzbekistan is the first strategic chapter established in Central Asia under the umbrella of the Climate Governance Initiative (CGI), in partnership with the World Economic Forum (WEF), and supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Deloitte Uzbekistan. WIUT hosts Chapter Zero Uzbekistan, an initiative dedicated to promoting effective climate-related governance among corporate boards.
- Chapter Zero Uzbekistan: Pioneering a Green Financial Future: Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) hosted an outstanding business meeting as part of the Chapter Zero Uzbekistan The event, titled "Embracing Climate Risks and Opportunities in the Financial Sector in Uzbekistan," discussed vital matters in finance and sustainability. During this event, distinguished experts from the financial sector generously shared their wealth of experiences and future oriented strategies for guiding banks toward a greener and more sustainable economy.
- Chapter Zero Uzbekistan: Tashkent's Sustainable Investment Workshop: Tashkent recently hosted discussions on sustainable investment, bringing together experts from international financial institutions, investment firms, and government bodies.
The workshop, in which Westminster International University in Tashkent actively participated acting as a host organization for Chapter Zero Uzbekistan, focused on implementing environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) practices. This is crucial for Uzbekistan's ongoing corporate governance reforms in all key sectors, aligning with the country's commitment to a green economy. - WIUT proudly hosted the First-Year Anniversary Celebration Event of Chapter Zero Uzbekistan: The evening was a resounding success, bringing together our dedicated members and top managers. Leading experts shared invaluable insights on implementing the green agenda in Uzbekistan's corporate sector. Additionally, the international partners discussed their experiences and best ESG practices, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and strategies.
