Guest Lecture on Preventing Drug Abuse and Extremist Influence

On 21 November, Westminster International University in Tashkent hosted a lecture on “Preventing the illicit trafficking and consumption of narcotic substances and psychotropic drugs, and measures to prevent individuals from being drawn into the ideas and influence of religious extremist movements.

The event, chaired by Nizom Kadirov, Deputy Rector for Youth Affairs, featured Shokhrukh Shodievich Sharipov, Head of Division, Investigation Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Lieutenant Colonel Sharipov discussed the dangers of narcotics, common causes of youth offending, how radical ideas spread, and practical prevention measures. He used slides and video to illustrate drug types, offence statistics and psychological methods used by extremist groups, and stressed the importance of cultural, sporting and educational activities in keeping young people engaged and safe.

The lecture finished with a lively Q&A, during which students received detailed replies to their questions. The session contributed to greater legal awareness and helped strengthen students’ resilience to drug misuse and extremist influence. We thank the speakers and everyone who attended.
