Elected representation

Labor Union

WIUT’s Labor Union ensures representation for faculty and non-faculty staff within the university’s highest governing body. Members are chosen based on a process that emphasizes positive peer recommendations, creating a collaborative environment where staff nominate individuals they trust to represent their interests. This method encourages inclusivity and ensures that the union reflects the diverse voices within the university community.

Elected members of the Labor Union participate actively in decision-making processes at the governance level. They advocate for policies that improve staff welfare, workplace conditions, and professional development. Their contributions ensure that the concerns and insights of staff are integrated into strategic planning and institutional governance.

The Labor Union’s involvement highlights WIUT’s commitment to participation and inclusivity. By providing a platform for both faculty and non-faculty staff, the university strengthens its governance framework and fosters a sense of shared ownership.

Academic Council

The Academic Council is WIUT’s supreme academic deliberative and decision-making body, providing strategic oversight of all academic provisions. It governs the policies that shape the university’s academic programs, activities, and quality assurance processes. The council is also responsible for approving policies that support students, including codes of behavior, disciplinary measures, and appeals procedures.

To fulfill its broad obligations and responsibilities, the Academic Council establishes specialized committees as needed. These include the Course Validation Standing Panel, Portfolio Planning Committee, Research and Knowledge Exchange Steering Committee, Student Experience Committee, and Teaching Committee. Each committee focuses on specific aspects of the university’s academic framework, ensuring thorough and targeted deliberations.

The Academic Council integrates representation from faculty, ensuring that academic staff have a direct role in shaping academic policies and strategic decisions. This participatory approach allows for diverse perspectives to influence key academic and institutional priorities.

As the senior academic body, the Academic Council embodies WIUT’s commitment to collaborative and inclusive governance, balancing the needs and contributions of students, faculty, and the broader academic community.

Students' Union

The Students' Union at WIUT plays a crucial role in representing the student body at the university’s highest governance level. Students from both undergraduate and graduate programs elect their representatives, ensuring that their voices are heard in decision-making processes.

Elected members actively participate in discussions on academic policies, student support initiatives, and overall university governance. They collaborate with members of the Academic Council and other key committees to advocate for policies that improve the student experience.

The union also facilitates student representation at multiple levels through course and school representatives. These representatives address specific issues within their programs and ensure consistent communication between students and university leadership.

Through its democratic processes, the Students' Union ensures that WIUT’s governance reflects the needs and priorities of its diverse student population. This participatory approach strengthens the university’s commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and accountability.
